Windows Live Essentials Build 8117

May 14th, 2010 ajua 2 comments

Microsoft released Windows Live Essentials Build 8117 yesterday.

It will be the last update to the suite before they launch the new versions in June or July. Also, this is the last version that can be installed in Windows XP. The new versions will not support it.

This new installer includes update versions of Messenger and Mail, among other minor things.

Go to http://download.live.com to download it.

If you want to download the full setup to grab the separate installers just click on download after selecting your language, cancel the first download window and click the Try again button.

That second download will be the full installer.

The tutorial i wrote to modify Windows Live Messenger works with this new version as well.

I’m uploading the new switchless installers for all the different applications, including Window Live Writer that I somehow left out the last time.

Windows Live Wave 3 Final

January 9th, 2009 ajua 2 comments

Microsoft released the final version of Windows Live Wave 3 applications, except Windows Live Movie Maker.

This includes the final version of Windows Live Messenger 2009, which is the same 9.0 14.0.8050.1202 version that was released in december as Release Candidate.

Go to http://download.live.com to download the web or full installers.

If you want the full installer just click on download after selecting your language, cancel the first download window and click the Try again button.

The second download will be the full installer that you can use to grab MSI files as explained in my tutorial for your unattended needs.

The tutorial i wrote weeks ago works with this new version. You just need to copy one more file, RichUpload.msi.

I will update the tutorial and my switchless installer for this final version. Maybe i can finish them up today.

Windows Live Messenger URL Blocking

May 11th, 2008 ajua 3 comments

Yesterday i read this on some sites: Windows Live Messenger is blocking sites like YouTube and Deviantart, among others…

People went crazy on this because many thought that Microsoft was behind this “censorship” of website url being sent in Windows Live Messenger. You can imagine all the complains that were posted on major news sites and forums.

Just a few minutes ago i went to the official Inside Windows Live Messenger blog and learned that this was just an error and it wasn’t Microsoft’s fault. Instead, they posted that a third-party partner of them handles the blocking system.

According to them, the problem is now gone.

As some of you noticed, we had a problem from Friday night to Saturday morning where our Messenger service was incorrectly blocking some legitimate IP addresses. We sincerely apologize for any difficulties this caused our users. And we want to thank those of you that reported this problem to us so that we could quickly fix it. Because of your help, the incorrect block was only in place for a few hours. [...]
