For anyone that makes use of environment variables in Windows, Rapid Environment Editor makes adding, editing or deleting them very easy and fast.
You can preview the expanded values right away in the same window, which is very useful for testing variables.
It displays system and user variables separated for better management.

PDF-XChange Viewer is a freeware PDF viewer that is fast and has plenty of options for a freeware alternative to Adobe Reader.
I think this is better than Foxit Reader in many ways. I have found some files that Foxit can’t render properly but PDF-XChange Viewer shows them well.
Fortunately for us, Adobe started to slim down its own Adobe Reader for speed and resource usage. The latest versions are great, but if you want an alternative, PDF-XChange Viewer is the best I have found so far.
ImgBurn is a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application, besides making and verifying disc images.
Its great for burning and making different kinds of disc images. It has several options to configure it just the way you want and it is very fast.

Mp3tag is the best freeware tag editor. It supports MP3, MP4, AAC, OGG, WMA and many other formats.
You can rename files based on their tags or tag them from their file names, get information from the Internet, add cover art and more. All of this can be done in batches to save precious time.
If you are like me and like to have all your music collection properly tagged, Mp3tag will make your life easier. However, to be fair, there is nothing that compares to Tag&Rename, which is a commercial application and my favorite tag editor.
Notepad++ is an open source text editor that has many useful features, like syntax highlighting, code folding, autocompletion and macro recording.
This freeware text editor can replace notepad and add many useful features. It’s very fast at opening files and supports highlighting of several code formats.
The only downside is that it doesn’t have tabs and according to its author there is no plan to do so. Besides this fact, the simplicity of the interface and its options make it a personal favorite.
For a more robust editor with tab support, more features and plugin capabilities, Notepad++ it’s the best.
Recuva is a freeware program for recovering deleted files.
It has a portable edition. Just make sure to click on the builds page when you follow the download link at the bottom of this post.
XnView is a great image viewer.
Supports viewing, converting, screen capture, slideshow and TWAIN (scanning).
