Uninstall Software Updates Manager
This has been a long-time annoyance as it is useless anyway.
Installshield created it to add convenience for a program to check for its updates but even as it is being installed by many programs, this program’s developers haven’t use it the way it was intended for.
Official Description:
FLEXnet Connect is a solution that Macrovision sells to software vendors that is designed to help you stay connected with your customers after they install your applications. Keeping software updated is one of the many benefits of FLEXnet Connect, but Macrovision also recommends that software vendors build in an option to disable automatic update checking. If you are using an application that uses FLEXnet Connect, your application may have a configuration option to disable update checking. Please check your application’s menu options.
If your application does not have this option, Macrovision has created a tool called the Software Manager that can disable automatic update checking. The Software Manager utility lists all applications currently using FLEXnet Connect on your computer and the FLEXnet Connect’s status with that application.
If you have it installed (look for Program Updates in your Start Menu), you can configure it to not check for program updates automatically but many times it starts at windows startup for no reason. Removal is easy, download the Software Manager Uninstall Program, run it and follow the instructions. Now you will have it removed from your system.

Thanks, this worked perfectly. I was so tired of it checking for updates uselessly.
Thanks a lot : that application was definitely annoying !
God bless you. I hate this thing that gets installed without asking.
Thanks for the post. Seems that their “uninstall” program actually just suppresses the program (in theory, at least – it didn’t work at all for me). Any ideas on how to fully remove the program from my hard drive? Mine isn’t managing anything at the moment, just sitting there taking up space.
It has worked for me every time.
I’m not sure why you still have it running, but you can try to stop its process before running the uninstall program.
Good luck and happy holidays!
i have to install an uninstaller in order to uninstall something i never installed ?
Only if you installed an application which installs Software Updates Manager and you want to get rid of it.
Regards.
The uninstall did not work for me. Here is what I had to do:
1) delete the “Software Manager” program from the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
2) Search computer for “ISUSPM” program or look at properties for the “Software Manager” program which is just a shortcut or trigger for the “ISUSPM” software.
3) Delete the “ISUSPM” and “Agent” program (both found in the same folder – can’t remember which folder)
4) If the “ISUSPM” program will not allow you to delete it then move it to another folder, restart computer, go to that folder and then delete it. You might also try stopping the program in Task Manager (didn’t think of this until after I restarted).
I’m so glad to have the annoying pop-in window gone form my PC. What a useless program.
Software Manager is an annoying, useless program, and after 6 months of trying unsuccessfully to uninstall it from my computer, I finally called Dell. The technician logged onto my computer and removed two programs: Roxio (which is used to burn CDs) and Cyberlink (which is used to watch DVDs). That fixed it. The Software Manager is hidden within those two programs, and if you remove them from your computer, you will have removed the Software Manager. I had no need to burn CDs or watch DVDs on my computer, and so I am glad to be without those programs now that the Software Manager is gone.
Tom, you can use the application called Software Manager Uninstall that removes the Updates Manager.
Uninstalling those programs like Roxio Creator and Cyberlink PowerDVD is not an option to some people.
It is annoying because that kind of feature gets installed without any user intervention.
I was using Vista and their uninstall program was not helpful. I got this program that is as bad as a virus while trying to add Media Sync capability to my Blackberry. The software would pop up while I was doing presentations, offering some irrelevant OCR product. Good lord.
The solution for me was as follows:
- Open Task Manager, stop the ISUSPM process.
- Locate and delete the Software Manager directory in Program Files.
- Open Regedit, search for ISUSPM, FlexNet and Macrovision and remove all registry entries.
This update program is a plague and whoever coded it without allowing you to disable it or uninstall it is guilty of writing a Trojan or a Virus.
I use the Software Update Uninstall program to remove it in Vista and it worked every time.
Be careful when deleting those registry entries because it might lead to some problems for users that have programs with those licensing schemes.
I agree with ajua that uninstalling important programs is not the best way to deal with that Software Manager devil, but I tried the uninstall tool for Software Manager several times and it did not work. Also, I should have added that when I bought the computer from Dell, they gave me CDs to reinstall all of the programs, so if I ever need Roxio or Cyberlink in the future, I have the CDs necessary to reinstall them.
Top man ajua! It removed the program. Thanks
Thanks for people like ajua. I had to update a usb data modem so it would run on vista, to do this I had to install it on my xp machine to run the update, the program installed the software updater, I never asked for it.
I stopped the process in task manager, ran the uninstall and bingo, it’s gone.
I have a great hate of programs that are installed without consent or knowledge.
as above I would have hated to uninstall other progams, I use cyberlink powerdvd and do not want to lose it.
Good on ya ajua and thanks
I had the same issue with SoftwareManagerUninstall.exe. So what I did instead:
- Kill the process ISUSPM.exe and agent.exe
- Go to “C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService”
- Rename the two exefiles (e.g. ren agent.exe agent.exe_goaway).
That at least stops that piece of (well) from hijacking my CPU (30%!) and making the fan spin like mad.
Pls note: you should reboot after that, because the system event log is filling up with errors.
Thank you all. I used Rusty’s instructions (10)above. It took care of the problem.
Thank God for this site. I have been dying to get that program off my computer.
I’m glad I helped you. Regards.
Thanks a million for the link to the installer. The program is nothing but a pest.
The article should clearly state that the “uninstaller” merely disables the software.
The authors statement “Now you will have it removed from your system.” is false.
Tony, I didn’t pretend to misinform or something.
As InstallShield calls it uninstaller, I didn’t check if it was indeed removed or disabled. As running the “uninstaller” disables its startup entry and service, there is no need to keep worrying (or getting annoyed) about it, which is the main reason I wrote this article.
Thanks for letting us know that it isn’t removed, just disabled.
Regards.
It worked perfectly. Thanks a lot!!
{Running Vista64}
I searched on ISUSPM and located this:
C:\ProgramData\Macrovision\FLEXnet Connect\6\
This (hidden) folder contains several .dll and .exe files related to this annoyance. They were still there after running the removal tool. Removed them; hopefully this is the end of it.
Another note:
I found another folder:
C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\
It contained three files whose names relate to adobe. It just so happens that my Adobe Acrobat Professional has been defunct since I noticed this scourge (creating .PDFs no longer working). I’m renaming these files to see what happens.
@Mark
Hi Mark. The problem with deleting files is that many of applications like the ones from Adobe use the FLEXNet licensing service, which is for a totally different purpose.
I would suggest you don’t delete them to avoid having problems. Using the Software Updates Manager Uninstall will remove it and disable it from starting up with Windows.
It worked for me Thanks a lot
Thanks for the uninstaller link. I had found the process name just a few minutes ago and wondered what it was for. It must have been recently installed along with another program, as I regularly check both start-up and running processes. Never even seen the updater window too lol
Hi really enjoyed reading your post.
Can i connect my blackberry pearl 8100 to my pc without having the device manager software?
@Sarah @ Search for car seats
Hi.
If by Device Manager Software you mean the Software Updates Manager, then yes, you can uninstall it without interfering with other applications.
Regards.
