ajua EDIT: removed the JIT text to make the comments section cleaner.
i will look for that particular exception.
Can you tell me if the error comes when loading the program or when applying a particular tweak?
This way i can know better why it is happening.
Are you interested in german translation?
Nice program.
Got a problem.
When I save the settings that I changed, I get a message “Access to registry key is denied”. I am an administrator. None of my settings are changed.
This is what I want to get rid of!
Can you help?
sphings:
right now im only working to release a spanish (i’m mexican) version. If i can find a way to implement translations in an easy way i will request translators.
masterblaster:
can you try one tweak at a time to pinpoint the exact tweak(s) that are causing the error? also please tell me if you are on vista or xp. I don’t have xp around to test my program.
thanks both for the feedback.
OK .. if you need me feel free to cantact me
I am using Vista.
I am checking “Disable Security Ceneter Notifications”, then Apply. When I do I get the error message “Unhandled excpetion has occured in your app. Access to Reg Key Security Center……”.
None of the settings are saved.
I have checked that. The exception is raised due to a registry key that is random. I will try to figure out a way to read that value from each computer’s registry. Hopefully will be solved in the next version.
Meanwhile, configure Security Center’s notifications manually. Thanks for the feedback.
How do I revert tweaks?
Just uncheck the ones you want and VistaTweaker applies the default values.
Help. I applied some of your settings, most notably the Windows UI tab -> Desktop section, and now my “Favorite Links” in Windows Explorer is gone (nothing shows up)… which registry key did you hack to make that disappear, and how do I put it back? Your program doesn’t appear to “undo” the setting very well.
Thanks.
what favorites links? the ones above the folders tree?
none of the registry tweaks touch that part. This is the first time i heard of this. Can you try to select Organize – Design – Navigation Panel to see if it is selected?
Also try to apply just the UI tweaks one at a time in another computer so i can be sure this is not machine-specific.
thanks.
I can confirm Rafal’s issue – It has to do with the way you remove the arrows from the desktop shortcuts. I was able to find the fix here: http://www.vista4beginners.com/remove-arrow-and-text-from-shortcuts
thanks RPMcMurphy for providing feedback. I will begin to look for the cause of the problem with that particular tweak. will post another version as soon as i can reproduce this error and fix it.
On the miscellaneous page I activated the Automatic Logon and don’t know how to disable this feature. Please let me know how to disable this again. Registry Key?
Hi. I forgot to include a Disable button for that. I will code it for the next version. Meanwhile you can disable Automatic Logon by changing this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\winlogonAutoAdminLogon=1 to AutoAdminLogon=0
Hi ajua,
I have a set of registry tweaks that work well for me in Vista. You may be testing them or not, but they would be very useful IMO. Here it goes:
Thanks Jose. I saved them and i will look if i don’t have them already. If i don’t, i will incorporate them in the next release.
Regards.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

Can anyone help me with this? I checked “Don’t display username at logon” and later tried to uncheck it,.. but system kep coming back with error msg “Unhandled exception has occurred in your applications,… blah,..” couldn’t remove it since. thanks.
to CL: I will check that exception to see what caused it.
to Steven: I didn’t saw any error in the code for that particular feature, but i think i have to test it a few times at home to see if it raises any error when trying to undo that tweak.
thanks to both of you for the feedback.
how do I uninstall or remove VistaTweaker? thanks.
Hi steven. You don´t have to uninstall it or remove it. Just don´t run it if you don´t want to use it. If you want restore the tweak make sure that you run VistaTweaker and de-select the ones you don´t want to keep.
That is why i provide it stand-alone for more convience.
ajua, can’t uncheck the tweaks,… kept giving me msgs like wht CL above faced. i’ve extracted the files into a folder in my HDD and the tweaks became effective since. what can I do?
hi steven. are you running x64? i haven’t test VistaTweaker in Windows XP x64 or Vista x64 yet.
i don’t have enough time to prepare registry files to send you that undo the tweaks you want. Im working on a registry backup feature when someone runs my program for the first time. Meanwhile try searching for a particular tweak on the internet, you will find the registry entries right away.
regards.
I’m using Vista x32. thanks.
hi, i wonder when you are going to release a new version of vista tweaker
I’m already working on a new version of VistaTweaker. I think that it will be ready in less than a month.
I don’t have much time, but i’m coding everytime i have some spare time.
When I run the Install program, I get an error message that VistaTweaker has quit running. I am running 64 bit Vista. What is my problem?
Hi Vernon, the cause of your problem if that VistaTweaker reads a lot of registry keys when you execute it. And 64bit versions of Windows have some changes in registry keys.
Unfortunately, i’m rewriting most of the code now and i don’t have access to Vista or XP 64bit. Maybe i can come up with something to disable the reads at startup and enable only those tweaks that surely works on 64bit.
But this will take some time because i have to do testing and research on this.
This is probably my favorite tweaker. The interface is minimalist and well organized with no flashy nonsense and klunky controls. The Apply button needs a bit of feedback (some glow, a click or maybe even a confirmation) and it needs to be updated for x64 Vista but apart from that it’s a gem. Nice work Ajua.
Thanks Sartre, I’m working right now on a new and improved version of VistaTweaker. It should be released soon.
Sadly, i don’t have the means to test properly x64 compatibility, but i will do my best.
Regards.
I’m already writing a new application that will replace VistaTweaker. It will support Windows 7 and Vista tweaks.
I think that it will be published before the end of June 2009 or the first week of July at the most.
Stay tuned.
